Search and suggestions
Relvello powers two parts of search: the search results page (the Relvello search block) and suggestions as shoppers type (the Relvello suggestions app embed).
How search matches products
Search works well before you configure anything:
- Typos. One mistyped letter is forgiven in words of 5 to 8 letters, two in words of 9 or more.
- Plurals, accents and case. "Dresses" finds "dress", "cafe" finds "café", and capitals never matter.
- Partial words. The last word matches as the start of a word, so results appear while the shopper is still typing.
- Field weights. A match in the title counts most, then brand and product type, then options and SKU, then tags.
To go further, add synonyms and query rules. Hide and bury rules set to cover search apply here too.
The search results page
Add the Relvello search block to your theme's search template (see Add Relvello to your theme). Shoppers can sort by Relevance, Best selling, Price, Alphabetically or Date, and narrow results with filters. Results always show one card per product.
Suggestions as shoppers type
Turn on the Relvello suggestions app embed under App embeds in the theme editor. It attaches to the search fields your theme already has, and shows:
- suggested searches,
- matching collections,
- matching products, and
- trending searches when the box is still empty.
The panel uses your theme's font and text color, and works in light and dark themes.
Embed settings
| Setting | What it does | Default |
|---|---|---|
| Replace the theme's own suggestions | Hides the theme's suggestions and shows Relvello's in their place. Off: Relvello's open under the search field next to the theme's. | On |
| Products shown | 2–10 products in the panel | 6 |
| Show prices | Prices under each product | On |
| Show trending searches on an empty search | Trending searches before the shopper types | On |
Misspellings
Search finds products even when a word is misspelled. On Search › Options, choose how forgiving it is:
- Normal (default)
- One typo in words of 5 letters or more, two from 9 letters.
- Forgiving
- One typo from 4 letters, two from 7. Good for catalogs with short product names.
- Exact words only
- No typos. The beginning of a word still matches, so "jack" finds jackets.
Pages in suggestions
Search suggestions can offer your own pages, like a size guide or the returns policy. Add them on Search › Options, with the words they should show for. A page shows when the typed words start its title or one of those words.
Searches with no results
Search › No results lists what shoppers searched for in the last 30 days and found nothing, most often first. For each one, you can add a synonym so the search finds your products, or send it straight to a page.
